About Gilbane Peck
Gilbane Peck is a sculptor, collage artist, photographer, street artist, and musician with a current focus in creating simple, sustainable mixed-media sculpture and collage works out of what other people have discarded and left behind. His recent collage works are made solely out of found magazine/ book clippings and or images taken of people from the streets; collaged on discarded wood/frame/canvases, with “garbage” and miscellaneous debris from the streets of NYC. Peck’s past and recent figure sculptures also follow the same vein and are made out of either clay from the earth with mixed media assemblage or found clothes, garbage, and wood from the streets.
The core backbone of Gilbane’s work revolves around making art that will inspire and challenge the viewer to contemplate the things we leave behind in this life, and how we treat our environment along the way.
Gilbane Peck was born and raised an outside New York City along the coast of Connecticut, and graduated from college in Vermont in 2009. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and a Minor in Environmental Liberal Arts, with a focus in mixed media and environmental sculpture. For the past five years has lived in a cabin in the woods of upstate NY and is currently splitting his time between a new studio in Brooklyn and a studio upstate. It was in the woods of Vermont, and NY that he discovered the process of making environmentally friendly art, and it is in the streets of New York City, where he continues to share this message of sustainability. Gilbane’s hope with his work is to continue inspiring others to incorporate sustainable values into in their own lives and passions.
